Hi, Crafty Friends! I wanted to share with you a super fun back-to-school item! These crayon boxes can hold snacks, gift cards, and even pens/pencils for your favorite/new teacher(s).
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers:
- Lessebo Colours 100lb: Flame, Cherry, Bubblegum, Sunflower, Beach Blue, Lime Green, Kelly Green
- Colorplan 100lb: Sapphire, Turquoise, Ebony, Bagdad Brown, Stone, Purple, White Frost
- SVG Files
- 3D crayons with small tray from The Salty Yankee
- Tray for 12 crayons
- Cutting Machine
- Adhesives
- Bearly Art Glue
- Hot Glue
To begin this project, you’ll need to upload the SVG(s) into your Cricut (or your preferred cutting machine). If you’re making the 3-Crayon box just as the original template provides, you can size up or down as you wish, just remember to change the size with all elements selected. If you’re planning on using the 12-crayon holder, make sure each crayon has the following measurements, and the tray is sized with the measurements listed as well. (These are the measurements, in inches, of the grouped files on your design software. These are not the sizes of the finished boxes.)
- Tray measurement: 17.21 x 15.21
- Crayon bottom measurement: 6.21 x 10.02
- Crayon top measurement: 4.86 x 4.86
I decided I wanted to make 12 crayons because there were honestly so many beautiful colors to choose from, so I created a tray to hold all 12. Look at all of the beautiful colors!
Whether you decide to do 3 crayons or 12, the assembly is super easy. You simply fold along the scored lines on both the top and bottom pieces of the crayons. You’ll also want to glue the tabs together, but on the top part of the crayon, I found it was easiest to glue the top tab for each side, and then work on the bottom tabs. This gave me a little more flexibility to work around the paper. I also found using hot glue worked best because it cut down on the dry time. I glued every tab to its corresponding piece, and repeated the steps until all the crayons were assembled.
Once you have all of your crayons assembled, you can go ahead and start gluing the decorative pieces. For this, I used Bearly Art glue and repeated it for all the crayons. I just love all these bright colors and how cute these are! I could make one hundred of these!
Next, we’re going to start the assembly of our crayon box holder. I started by laying out the pieces for the bottom and all four sides, and then folded them along the score lines. I then lined up where each piece would get glued but did not begin gluing at this time.
I decided it would be easier to assemble the front while the pieces were flat on my desk. I began by grabbing the green triangles for the corner of the box. I glued the darker green (smaller triangle) on top of the lime green (larger triangle) and glued them to each respective corner. I then glued the crayon logo together by placing the white letters on top of the red offset.
After the front was fully assembled, I glued each side of the box together and had fun placing the crayons inside! This box is so easy to assemble and so cute once it’s done!
I hope this inspired you to Make Something Beautiful®!
