Masculine 50th Birthday Pinwheel Card

Hi there! It’s Andrea back with you, and today I’m sharing a fun card I created for my husband’s 50^th birthday. (Whoa, where has the time gone?!) This card was a labor of love, but I think he’s totally worth it!

I started by creating the awesome pinwheels with The Greetery’s Pinwheel Party Bundle. First, I die cut the pinwheels from the following papers: Sirio Blu, Sirio Celeste, Sirio Cherry, and Stardream Gold Metallic. For each color, I cut out two of each size pinwheel. I didn’t use all of them, but I wanted to have plenty available when it was time to assemble the card (I saved the leftovers for another project). Next, I used the coordinating stencil and the inks pictured to add the details to the pinwheels.

Using the streamer dies from the bundle, I die cut streamers from Sirio Blu, Sirio Celeste, and Sirio Cherry. It’s not pictured, but I also die cut streamers from Stardream Gold Metallic (Initially, I had planned on using just the first three colors, but then changed my mind). Again, I cut more than I ended up using on this project, but I prefer having too many than having to make more in the middle of assembly.

Using the Solid and Ouline Number Dies, I die cut “50” from Stardream Gold Metallic cardstock. I glued the outlines onto the solid numbers. You’ve probably noticed that the final card does not have “50” in the Stardream paper. While I was assembling the card, I decided to switch that cardstock out for Gold Mirror to emphasize the numbers more. I die-cut “th” with the alphabet dies from the same paper, as well as Bright White cardstock three times, and layered the pieces together for dimension.

Once I had created all of the elements, it was time to assemble the card. I trimmed a 5”x7” rectangle from Sirio Ultra Black cardstock and created a 5x7 card base from Bright White cardstock. I arranged the pinwheels on the top half of the rectangle and adhered them with a combination of liquid adhesive and foam adhesive, adding two or three layers of foam to some of the pinwheels for interest and depth. I attached the streamers with liquid adhesive. After trimming away the overhang from the pinwheels and streamers, I adhered the panel to the card with double-sided adhesive.

To give the illusion of confetti, I flicked gold shimmer spray over the panel. Once the ink was dry, I adhered the gold numbers with foam tape and glued the “th”. I heat-embossed a sentiment from the Roses stamp set onto Sirio Cherry cardstock, trimmed it into a banner, and affixed it with foam adhesive. Finally, I glued gold confetti over the card.
