Hey there! It’s Kira and I am back with another tutorial using my favorite Cardstock Warehouse papers. Follow along as we make some DIY earrings that will be the perfect gift this holiday season.
Let's get started!
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Cherry Wood Veneer
- Marrs Green
- Forest Green
- New Blue
- Paver Red
- Red Diamond Print Glitter
- White Diamond Print Glitter
- Paper Bag Kraft (for earring cards)
- Scissors
- UV resin (UV light, optional)
- Safety equipment for resin (mask, gloves, well-ventilated area)
- Tombow Liquid Adhesive
Electronic die-cutting machine OR metal dies OR punches - Earring backings
First things first, you’ll want to gather your papers of choice for this project. I used a variety, more as an experiment than anything! This was my first time using resin on paper, so I wasn’t sure how each paper would withstand it. But, no worries, because they all worked great. Just a reminder though, resin is a liquid, so the matte papers will darken once the resin is added, so keep that in mind as you are choosing your papers for this project. My favorite paper to use for this project was the wood veneer. The color only darkened slightly and the resin really brought out the wood grain.
Once you have your papers picked out, you will cut out shapes on your die-cut machine (or use manual dies or punches!). I cut out circles at 0.5”, 0.75” and triangles at 0.75”. Then, I cut the colored cardstock shapes in half, to create a color blocked effect on my earrings.
Using a liquid adhesive, I adhered the colored cardstock on top of the wood veneer. The liquid adhesive allows some wiggle room, so you can get the placement just right. You don’t need to worry much about the adhesive holding too much, since the resin will secure everything in place once it is added.
Next, add resin on top of your shapes. I used a UV resin purchased from Amazon. It is simple to use, even for a novice resin user, just make sure to follow all safety instructions while using. To harden my earrings, I used my UV light (I have this for doing my nails, and it was also purchased on Amazon). The UV light is not necessary though, since direct sunlight will also harden the resin, just with a much longer dry time.
Once your resin has hardened, you can secure the earring backings to the back of the shapes. I put a small amount of resin on the back and moved the backing around to sort of “sink” it into the resin. Then I used my light to harden the resin.
And now you have finished your earrings!
Once my earrings were complete, I cut out some earring cards out of Paper Bag Kraft to give them a professional look before gifting them.
There are so many options with this project that I really hope you are inspired to try making them yourself. Here’s a look at some peppermint candy earrings I made using the Diamond Print Glitter paper in white and red (these papers work great with the resin, and the color changes only slightly):
