DIY Candle Hostess Gift with Matchbox and Thank You Card

DIY Hostess Gift

Hey there! It is Kira and I am back today with another fun project using my favorite Cardstock Warehouse papers. Today I'm going to show you how to make an easy hostess gift you can bring along to your next gathering!

Supplies:

  • Cardstock Warehouse Papers:
    • Seaweed Lessebo Colours 83lb.
    • Vanilla Lessebo Colours 83lb.
    • Rust Colorplan 65lb.
    • Cobalt Colorplan 100 lb. Place Card (from the Cut Cards section)
  • Adhesive
  • Cricut (or any electronic die cutting machine)
  • Box taper candles
  • Matches
  • Candlestick holders

The holidays are just around the corner, which means I will inevitably be invited to a myriad of social events. What I refuse to do is show up to those events empty-handed. So today, I wanted to share with y’all a quick, easy, (and fairly inexpensive) hostess gift that you can bring to your next event, using a box, some candles, candle holders, and matches. I am using a few of my favorite paper colors as well. (listed above)

I first started with a box. This one is from Amazon, but any box will do. I wanted to make sure my items fit lying flat and that the box wasn’t too deep. Then, I cut off the flaps from each side. You could also use the box your Cardstock Warehouse papers come in!

Once the flaps were cut off, I then proceeded to cover the sides (both inside and outside) with cardstock. You could cover the bottom of the box if you’d like, but since I knew I would be filling it with crinkle paper, I left mine exposed.

Since I wanted to customize my matchbox, I removed the cover and created my own using cardstock. This was very easy to do, using the original cover as a template. Then, I used my Cricut to cut the word “matches” along with a few leaves. I cut the striker paper from the original cover and adhered it to the custom cover.

I used the same font and leaves to also create a thank you card using a place card.

Once you have filled the box with crinkle paper, figure out the layout for your items. You’ll want to include your candlestick holders (I got mine for $6 at an estate sale. Estate sales are great places to find these, but I always check my local thrift store for these as well), two taper candles ($3 for 4 of these at my local grocery store), a matchbox with matches ($1 for a box of 300 matches), and finally, a little thank you note for your hostess.
