Hey Crafters, Kayla here! Graduation season is upon us and what better gift to give to a new graduate than a gift card or cash? It may seem impersonal, but it's truly the gift they want most! Even if you're just giving a gift card, that doesn't mean we can't still make it cute and handmade. Follow along as I show you how to make a graduation gown money/gift card holder.
Gather these supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Paper:
- Lessebo Colours 83lb: Pitch Black, Ivory, Red Rose
- Antique Gold Stardream Metallic 105lb
- 2-Way Glue Pen
- Craft Tape
- Cutting Machine
- Cap and Gown File from NovaeMakersMart on Etsy
Once all the supplies have been gathered, open up a new project on your cutting system and upload the file. I am using Design Space by Cricut. Adjust the file as needed for your particular cutting machine. Then, cut out all the pieces. The paper colors I used are listed above.
Next, let’s start assembling. Start with the gift card holder insert. Begin by adhering the gold rectangular piece to the front of the insert. Next, fold along the scored lines and add glue to the tabs and adhere them to the front of the insert. This will create the pocket that the gift card goes in.
Next, add the top of the graduation cap and the tassel to the top of the insert. It should look like this when you are done.
Then, take one of the graduation gowns, place the insert on top of it and add glue/craft tape around the graduation gown. This will allow you to pull the insert in and out of the graduation gown. Be sure not to get any glue or tape on the insert or it won't slide. Then, take the second gown and adhere it to the top.
Next, add the sash to the gown. You can make these any color you want, but I chose gold because it matches the school colors of the person I am gifting this to. You could also use a fancy pen to write the school name on the sash.
Finally, roll up the white rectangle tightly and add the thin red strip around it. This makes a tiny adorable graduation scroll. If you're really fancy, you could also use parchment paper for this. Adhere it to the graduation gown.
And there we have it! Fill the insert with money or a gift card and it's ready to be delivered. It is perfect for the new graduate!
