Halloween Banner Handmade Card

Halloween Banner Handmade Card

Hi everyone! Natasha of @PoliteCreations, joining you for a spooktacular blog post using some fun new papers! I'm going to work with the Thai Unryu mulberry paper today! Long, winding kozo fibers run throughout Thai Unryu giving it its unique appearance.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers:
    • Thai Unryu Mulberry Papers: Black, Lavender, Pink, and Pumpkin
    • Sirio Ultra Black 104lb
    • Translucent Vellum 48lb
    • Colorplan 100lb: Candy Pink, Lavender, Bright White
  • Concord & 9th Best Friend Vibes Stamp and Metal Die
  • Bat Metal Die
  • Adhesives:
    • Double-Sided Adhesive Roll
    • Liquid Precision Glue
  • Permanent Black Inkpad
  • Enamel Dots
  • Sparkle Pen
  • Additional Tools:
    • Metal Plate Die Cutting Machine (Sizzix, Big Shot, Cuttlebug, etc.)
    • Inking Palette
    • Paper Trimmer
    • Scissors
    • Mini Misti Stamping Platform

To begin, I adhered strips of the Thai Unryu in Lavender, Pink, and Pumpkin to a sheet of white cardstock using double-sided adhesive. This paper is thin but has the best fibrous texture, so I wanted to add a bit of dimension behind it with the cardstock.

I tried to align the rows of squares from the Best Friend Vibes die to the strips on the page. I die cut this to create the banner pieces. I also die cut the square rows a second time from the white cardstock to have a template for stamping. (*Note- I am using metal dies to cut these. The Thai paper cuts great with metal dies, but is not compatible with electronic die cutting machines like the Cricut or Silhouette.)

I arranged my squares in the pattern I desired to spell out “Happy Halloween” and then placed those into the square template inside of my Mini Misti. I carefully aligned the stamp set with the template and stamped the letters using Permanent Black Ink. This leaves me with tiny little banner letters!

Once those were stamped, I die cut the banner strings, which are the bracelet strings in the die set, using Sirio Ultra Black.

Next, I cut strips from the Translucent Vellum in varying sizes as these will create the mummy wrap look on the Candy Pink Panel. With those cut, I adhered them to a 3 ¾ x 5 inch panel of Candy pink, overlapping and varying the strip sizes as I went. You can use liquid glue or double-sided tape to adhere the strips.

I then began assembly of the Halloween banner. I adhered the banner strings first, followed by the letter squares. Since I wanted this to look like a banner and not a bracelet, I aligned the top of the squares to the banner string and left spacing between each one. Once those were in place, I added a few small white circles which were die cut using the same die set. (Pro tip- Precision liquid glue is ideal for tiny pieces like these!) I then added this onto an A2 panel of Lavender Colorplan with double-sided tape.

I die cut bats from Black, Pink, and Lavender Thai Unryu which was adhered to white paper. I used various sizes of the bats and adhered those to random places on the card. I felt the card needed more at this point, so I grabbed some enamel dots and added small white dots between each letter on the banner. I also alternated black and white dots on the ends of “Happy.” The final touch was adding sparkle to the bats using the Sparkle Pen.
