It’s officially spooky season and the witches are coming out to play! This adorable, witchy cake topper will cast a spell (of cuteness) on your party guests. When your crafting “witching hour” arrives, follow along to learn how to make this easy cake topper.
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Paper:
- Woodstock Giallo 83 lb
- Woodstock Nero 83 lb
- Woodstock Malva 105 lb
- Woodstock Verde 83 lb
- MirriSparkle Black Diamond
- Cutting Machine (I'm using a Cricut)
- Liquid Glue / Tape Runner
- Hot Glue Gun
- Clear Acrylic Sticks
- Wooden Toothpicks
Begin by cutting all the pieces from the linked Cricut file – the witch hat, legs, and moon & stars. I chose to double-up the bases of the witch hat, legs, and the moon & stars for additional sturdiness; this is completely optional, but adds a bit of durability.
If you do not have a cricut, you can search your machine's software for images like witch hat, witch boots, Halloween witch, moon, stars, etc.
Glue together the layers of the adorable witch hat and its details using a tape runner and liquid glue. Next, assemble the moon and star pieces with liquid glue, ensuring everything is aligned for a clean finish. The Woodstock paper cut really well, so these line up with nice clean edges!
Next, it’s time to piece together the witch legs. Glue the two leg bases together using liquid glue. Then, add the small stripe details and bows.
A helpful tip - whenever I work with small pieces, I find it helpful to leave them on my mat. With the tiny pieces on my mat, I understand the placement better and they don’t magically vanish.
With all the pieces glued, you can now turn them into cake toppers. Using a hot glue gun, glue the wooden toothpicks and/or clear acrylic sticks to the back of each die cut shape. I used the clear acrylic sticks for the moon and stars, as I knew they would be visible sticking up from the cake. This gives the illusion that they are floating above the cake, which I think is really cool! The wooden toothpicks will be hidden once you place them inside the cake.
Place your witchy toppers in a Halloween cake and you’re ready to eat, drink, and be scary! I used a store-bought cake and added my own festive Halloween-themed sprinkles. You could also scale these down and make little witchy cupcakes!
