Hi Crafty Friends! Today I am sharing the cutest Nutcracker Gift Box. What’s great about this box is that it’s a 3-in-1 and perfect for surprises as the hat, head, and jacket area all open up! You can fill this with gifts, candy, baked goods, or any other holiday treats!
Materials:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers:
- Stardream 105lb: Rose Quartz
- Lessebo Colours : Vanilla (111lb) & Red Rose (100lb)
- Colorplan 100lb: Bagdad Brown, Ebony, & Frost
- Woodstock 83lb: Rosa
- MirriSparkle 104lb: Gold Touch
- Nutcracker Gift Box SVG File
- Cutting Machine
- Bearly Arts Glue
- Hot Glue (Optional)
- Foam tape (Optional)
To begin this project, you’ll need to upload the SVG into Cricut (or your preferred cutting machine). You can resize the file to be bigger or smaller but be sure to do so while it is grouped so everything fits together perfectly. After resizing, if you choose to, make sure to ungroup and attach each box with its respective cut/score lines if you’re using a Cricut.
We’ll start with the assembly of the bottom two boxes (Vanilla & Red Rose) and begin folding along the dashed cut lines. You’ll want to insert the tabs so they appear on the inside of the box and glue them shut. I used hot glue here for a quicker drying time, but you can use any glue of your choice. Once those two boxes are complete, we’ll move on to the final box which has an attached lid, while the first two boxes have separate, detachable lids.
One the three boxes are complete, we can go ahead and assemble the lids for the bottom boxes. We’ll do this in the same manner, folding along the dashed cut lines and gluing the tabs inside so they are not visible on the outside of the boxes. Once the lids are assembled, go ahead and place the gold glitter strip along the Red Rose lid (biggest box).
Next, we’ll continue assembling the jacket of the red box. We’ll go ahead and use glue to attach the red “V” layer onto the white shirt layer and then we’ll glue it directly onto the red box (lid off).
Moving on to the next box, we’ll be assembling the face section. To make everything nice and evenly distributed, I scored the face onto the Vanilla colored square - but this is optional. If you’d like to do the same, duplicate the face (eyebrows, eyes, nose, blush etc) and the original set can be changed to “scored” at the top of Cricut’s Design Space, and then attached to the layer.
You’ll notice I did not score the mustache/beard and that is because it lays over multiple layers/boxes. I also did not score the hair as we only need to place a small strip of glue to attach to each side of the face.
(I did make a small edit to the final file. You’ll see that the hair is cut shorter than what’s in the images shown here, and that’s because I realized the lid would not fit on the box if the hair was placed high at the top but you’ll have no worries now when assembling it.)
At this time, you can go ahead and continue placing the facial features in their respective areas. I used foamies to give some elevation to the nose, mustache and beard, but you can absolutely glue them flat together if you desire.
Lastly, you can place the lids on top of each box and glue the black hat box to the black lid. Finally, you’ll add the jacket trim and you’re all done! Isn’t it so cute? Now it’s ready to fill with special treats!
I hope this project inspired you to Make Something Beautiful®!
