- 8.5” x 11” Translucent Vellum 30lb
- Embellishments for Flower Centers (48)
- Electronic Cutting Machine
- Design File for Lantern (Lori Whitlock/Quitefire)
- Scoring Tools
- Liquid Adhesive
- Scor-Tape (I used ⅛” and ¼”)
To get started, I purchased the lantern design file from Lori Whitlock’s online store. I used the no-line version of the SVG file in my design space software. I changed cut lines to score lines, to eliminate the dashes on fold lines. I used the contour feature in design space to eliminate the swirl in the center of one of the flowers. Next, I deleted all other flowers and used the copy and paste function to create a total of 48 flowers without centers (6 of each color: Vermiglione, Arancio, Limone Sirio 80lb, Lockwood Green, Blu Raspberry, Turchese Sirio, Grape Jelly, and Candy Pink). I changed the colors on the file to get an idea how my lantern would look.
I cut the lantern and flowers using my Cricut and scoring tool. Next, I cut the four pieces of vellum for the back of the lantern.
I started assembling the flowers in a rainbow pattern on each side of the outside of the lantern. I used liquid adhesive for this process. Once complete, I ensured each of the score lines was sufficient and reinforced them with my bone folder. I would recommend doing this BEFORE you glue any of the flowers!
Next I added my rhinestone embellishments using liquid adhesive.
On the inside panels of the lantern, I adhered each of the vellum panels with ⅛” scor-tape. I used ¼” scor-tape on the side of the lantern. I closed the bottom of the box using a combination of scor-tape and liquid adhesive.
Here is the finished lantern!
Tips and Tricks:
- Scor-tape is best to secure the lantern, both bottom and side panels. If you prefer liquid adhesive, you may need to use paperclips or hold adhesive until it's dry.
- Embellish your flowers with something sparkly. Here I used some black rhinestone embellishments with a blue iridescent tint.
