Christmas Activity Tray Party Favor

Christmas Activity Tray

Hi, Crafty Friends! Today, I bring you a really fun activity kit with a perfect mix of snacks and playtime. In this activity kit, your littles will be able to snack on Pringles and gum, play with Play-Doh, and paint and/or color fun coloring pages. These are also great to make as gifts, party favors, or for class parties. Let's get started!

Suppliess:

This SVG requires knowledge of how to use your electronic machine with SVG files. You will also need to add your own clipart. You can find clipart to match your theme in your machine’s software, or a file provider like Creative Fabrica. If adding your own clipart to cut files is not a process you are familiar with, you can also cut the pieces using colored cardstock and build your activity tray that way! You can find tons of tutorials on YouTube for working with files if needed.

We’ll be building this template today in sections to create an easier flow. You can go ahead and print and cut the entire design and just set pieces aside as we work through the entire design. You can find the papers I used listed in the supplies above.

To start, let’s grab the base of the template box. You’ll notice dashed cut lines that you’ll want to fold along. Once all sides and tabs of the boxes are folded, glue the tabs to the underside of each side panel. You’ll then be able to place the top of the box (with the cutouts) over the bottom of the box and set it aside.

We’ll then go ahead with some of the quicker items to assemble. Grab your paint pots and use your scissors and snap the “connected” strip so the paint pots are separated. You can then fill them with paint colors of your choice. I’ve chosen red and green to keep the Christmas spirit alive. :) Once your paint pots are filled, you can go ahead and pop them into the tray.

Next up, we’re going to grab the 1oz Play-Doh and glue your design right onto the lid. Go ahead and place that into the tray as well.

We’re going to grab our Hubba Bubba Gum Tape next, and if you’ve chosen to use a balloon (simply to disguise the pink color case and make it match your theme), we’ll grab the balloon and scissors as well. Make sure your balloon is not smaller than 12” or it will break. I used scissors and cut straight across around the lower part of the neck of the balloon. I then stretched the balloon over the Gum Tape and if there was any excess balloon area that didn’t lay “flat”, I snipped a little more. I then grabbed my silicone glue and glued my design right on top. I’ve used hot glue in the past and the paper didn’t adhere well to the balloon, so I really recommend silicone glue here. If you’ve chosen not to use a balloon, go ahead and glue your design on top or use a tape runner. Once your tape is finished, it can go right into the tray.

Next, you can print some fun coloring pages, however many you decide is completely up to you. I included a Creative Fabrica link to some that I like in the supplies, but you can get yours from whatever file provider you prefer. You can also make labels for your crayons if you’d like, and pop them right into the tray. Once your coloring pages have been printed, you can roll them up and insert them into the tray.

Next up is my absolute favorite part! PRINGLES!! I decided I wanted to make standing dome Pringles because I had the cutest idea of an Elf’s face inside. For the scallop around the Pringles, because I chose to print on the beautiful diamond print glitter paper. I did have to cut by hand (print and cut was too large for the standard 8.5x11 printing) but feel free to cut using cardstock instead if you’d like.

I always start my Pringles by grabbing the strip with the “teeth” and folding along the score lines. I then grab the tab that will be glued on the underside and use a dot of hot glue before grabbing the other end of the strip and gluing it together. This now forms the perfect circle area for our Pringles lid. I take the “inside” part of the tabs and using Bearly Art glue, I add glue on each tab, grab the circle without the cut in the lid, and glue into it.

Once the lid has been formed, I place it on top of the can. You can also place the label on now if you’d like. Sometimes I do this first, and sometimes last, so whichever order you’d like to do it. Again, I used the beautiful Diamond Print Glitter, so I grabbed the tape runner and on the inside part of the label, I added tape on each side so that I could place it on the can and seal. Because of the texture of the glitter paper, I added some hot glue as well to make sure it stayed sealed.

Now you’ll want to grab your scissors and snap off the hanging circle part of the clear ornament. I filled it with my favorite bingsu beads and set it aside while I prepped my backing. Again, because I used Diamond Print Glitter, I decided to cut an extra piece of cardstock to make sure the back was more sturdy. I glued my design right on top of the cardstock. I then grabbed the circle that has a cut out on the lid, and a “U” tab on the bottom. I inserted the “U” right into the hole on the lid and glued the “U” on the bottom.

Finally, I grabbed my silicone glue again and glued the rim of the ornament I had set aside. I use silicone glue because it not only dries clear but gives you a little wiggle room if you need to adjust the rim. After glued covered the entire rim, I grabbed the backing and carefully placed it along the edge of the ornament dome. It’s a pretty perfect fit so it should be easy for you to line up with no space on either side. I then left the dome with the round part face down on my desk so the glue could dry, without having the bingsu beads get glued around the edge. I usually use this time to clean up around my area and give it a good 1-2 minutes to dry :)

Afterward, I grabbed the completed dome and glued it onto the first lid base we made. Then, grabbing my hot glue, I put some glue right under the dome (it will dry clear) but be careful not to put too much so it isn’t visible with your completed Pringles. After it has dried, it’s time to shake, shake, shake! After this, I go ahead and glue the scalloped border around the Pringles.

If you’re looking for an easier option for the Pringles can, or you don’t want to use the ornament domes, you can print a pattern on White Diamond Print Inkjet Glitter paper and then cut out the pieces for the activity tray. Look how cute these Halloween cans are! (Lid made with Black MirriSparkle Glitter.)

Finally, it’s time to design our “house” design. Another super simple part to assemble and our last pieces. I grabbed the front of the house with the bricks cut out and glued directly onto the back layer. I then glued the window frames on top of each other and added the “snow” edge. I used a 2mm foam tape just to make it pop, this is optional. Once my windows were complete, I used a 3mm foam tape and put it directly on the house. I also added foam tape to the back of the door and placed it on top. I also used foam for the snow on the roof and the chimney. After they were all placed together, I used hot glue along the bottom edge of the front of the house and secured it to the back of the tray base.

And we’re done! It’s a lot of steps, but so worth it in the end! Now your tray is ready for it’s recipient, who is sure to have a ton of fun with it!
