If you have been following my crafty journey with Cardstock Warehouse, then you know I love fall! I love absolutely everything about it, the leaves, the weather, the colors, and definitely the calm of it all. But this fall is a little different. My last child, my baby girl, a.k.a. my Pumpkin Butt, has left for college. While I’m feeling a mixture of feelings, I am ultimately excited for her to start her new journey as an adult and an independent young woman. Although I wasn’t there to take this photo, I’m with her in spirit, love, and joy!
I normally would be crafting with pastel colors, but this time I’m going for a more bright and retro color scheme using the Woodstock papers! This is a perfect layout if you want to do something quick with multiple photos of the same likeness. So if you want to create something like this, grab your scraps, your photos, and possibly your sewing machine... and let’s get started!

For the base of my layout, I used three 12x12 sheets, two in Bianco and one in Nero. I layered them on top of each other with the black layer in the middle, cutting off about a quarter inch each layer. I did not attach anything yet because I will be doing some stitching and some sketching with my Silhouette machine on the top white layer. (Roughly 11.5x11.5 inches.)
I think I have tried the sketching feature on my Silhouette one time and my pens were in the drawer for so long that some of them dried up. However, I did manage to find a couple that I could use to complete the layout. I added a sentiment in the top left corner and focused on the word "happy" in the center. I traced that out with a yellow pen. I put my settings on a little too high so I have a little drag mark in the yellow ink, but it’s okay. As we say in the crafty world, we know it’s homemade, lol! This was very fun and interesting. I definitely will be doing it again.
To create a similar look on your layout, add text/sentiments where you'd like on your design software for your cutting machine and use your machine's pen tool to add the details. You can also handwrite these, stamp them, or print them. Alphabet stickers are also great for adding titles to scrapbook pages.
Next, I cut all my geometric shapes using various colors from the Woodstock paper collection. I provided the SVG file in the supplies list above for all the shapes I used.
After I cut all of the pieces and gathered the supplies that I would be using to create the simple layout, I took them to my sewing machine to do some unique stitches and attach the base papers together. Two for one!
I started with the three pieces for the 12x12 background. I attached the top white layer (the one with the sketching) to the second black layer by stitching around the edge. I did that with a zigzag stitch and used blue thread that matched the coordinating geometric pieces.
I then took the bottom white layer and used a double stitch to add a coordinating thread to the border. I made sure to stay close to the edge so that it would show when the other two pieces were on top.
I printed my photos on Kromekote white glossy paper. It looks so beautiful and shiny! I made sure to resize my photos so they’ll fit nice and evenly in the center of my layout. My photos will go on top of the long white rectangle piece.
I added a simple border stitch around the edge of the white rectangle. I didn’t want to cut into the photos, so I attached them directly on top of the stitched rectangle with adhesive instead of stitching. I used liquid glue for the top and bottom photo, and foam tape for the center photo to pop it up a bit.
Look how happy she is!
To place my geometric shapes, I started with the Giallo long strip and the Arancio thinner strip. I attached these with liquid glue.
I added some stitching to some of my die cuts for extra detail, and then placed those, using my rectangle of photos as a guide. (But don't attach the photo rectangle collage until you have all your die cuts glued where you want them!)
I added the Pistacchio stitched triangle to the right side of the photo collage. I wanted it to point down towards the words "college girl" so that the eyes are drawn to that sentiment after reading the blurb.
Then, I added the other stitched triangle pointing toward the right, on the left side to even things out. I placed this a little bit above the previous triangle.
I placed the rest of my small geometric shapes around the layout to balance it all out. I used a mix of liquid glue and foam tape for these.
I cut out a small black rectangle and added some dash lines with my white ink gel pen, and hand-wrote "Fall of 2024" inside the dashes. I placed that on with foam dots.
Once I had everything in place and where I want it, I added some dimension to the back of my focal piece and stuck it on. I used foam tape to attach this because I wanted to make sure that popped up a little bit from the layout. I placed my pictures in a little bit of a wonky way to add some fun to the layout.
I added some heart stickers to some areas of the layout. I also went in with my black fine-tip Sharpie and added dash lines around some of the elements on the layout.
As mentioned earlier, my pen decided to drag along my sketch where it says "happy." I added some hearts to it. Might as well consider it a banner, lol!
I added a few more hearts and dash lines around the layout to make everything matchy-matchy.
And now our layout is complete! Here are some close-up shots of the layout so you can see how creative you can be with your scraps! I hope you enjoyed what I created and will try this at home. This was both functional, creative, and a great use of scraps, but most of all, therapeutic. I miss my baby girl!
