We already know fall is most people's favorite season! It is absolutely beautiful this time of year where I am. The leaves are gorgeous, the air is crisp and there are tons of warm yummy foods that keep us smiling every day! I found the perfect SVG file hidden in my computer stash that encompasses all the things that I love! Quiet, safe, secure, cozy, eclectic, unique, and fun! I chose to use all of these colors to express my creativity.

I knew I wanted to make a pumpkin cottage but I hadn’t decided on the color scheme that I wanted. So off to Pinterest I went to look for some color “PINspiration." I found quite a few color combos that piqued my interest. There was one color board that I absolutely fell in love with. This color board was perfect for my fall color scheme, and I chose papers that gave the same vibe.
So off I went to cut my files from SVGcuts and pull papers from my stash. I won’t give you a step-by-step tutorial process, because Mary goes in-depth on her YouTube channel, so you'll definitely want to check that out.
The first thing I like to do is cut out all of my pieces - and there were many of them, but I succeeded!
A tip for cutting out large cut files is to categorize them by color. That way you can grab your stack and cut everything all together. Another tip is to cut everything by section. That way you know this is the house, this is the roof, this is the floor, etc. I often find using trays to hold my die cut sections helpful as well.
The next thing I do is to grab other essentials that I need. Things like hot glue, wet glue, pop dots, embossing folders, ink pads, scissors, etc. I laid those out so that they would be ready to go. I need everything to be neat, tidy, organized, and in order for this big project to go off without a hitch!
I used wood grain, brick, and cobblestone embossing folders along with pink, purple, and brown inks to emboss my outer layers and distress those same layers with ink to bring out the details. I love doing this, it’s a bit time-consuming but it’s all worth it in the end. These particular bits are the roof, the siding, and the flooring.
Now I’m going to start working in parts as directed in the video. The first thing we did was separate our pieces so that we can make our door entryway.
The papers that I chose were cut, embossed, and inked up so well! It was absolutely perfect! The next step will be to make cute little bay windows. I love using the vellum paper as the "glass" in the windows. This will allow light to shine through them when I add my LED lights.
Moving right along to putting all the pieces together for the front face. We have our entry level, our first step, our siding, and our little window pots. Everything‘s coming together quite nicely.
Now this is a treat box, but I am adding lights to it and permanently attaching it together. There will not be treats, just the ability to turn the lights on and off. But this is a great idea to hold candy in a decorative way.
If I ever build a house, I would wish the outside flooring came together as quickly as this did, lol! Unfortunately, this is paper and we’re working on a very, very, very small scale.
Next, I wanted to find a way to make "grass." I settled for the alternative and made embossed grass. Kind of like false turf, right? Anywho… This wood fence is everything. I love it!
Now we’re calling the concrete people in. Or the card stock people in this case, to get our steps complete. Again, the video tutorial goes step-by-step with really great details, but in real life… It’s not this fast.
The attic, roof, and windows came together quite nicely. In hindsight, I wish I would’ve made all the windows in that beautiful glitter cardstock… But I digress and I am happy with the outcome. Next time…
This lovely vine- I had to cut this out in a few different greens. I couldn’t decide on which one. I finally decided on the rich dark Forest Colorplan one because… That’s what it needed to be. And I cut out extra so we can have a viney house. 😂
Here’s a little close-up of the front finished entryway. Do you see the cobblestone? Do you see the embossed green turf? My walk-up stairs glow and glitter. And I absolutely love it!
Now before we get to the final review, do you think that you would ever make a bigger project like this? Have you ever challenged yourself to do something on a larger scale? I always have things like this in the back of my head to complete, but I steer away from tiny elements.
