Now that you have everything you need, let’s get to work creating this fun 3D birthday banner!
To begin, cut all of your pieces on your cutting machine. I cut the banner pieces with Purple Haze and Bubblegum Lessebo, the words with white glitter iron-on vinyl, the candle stripes with holographic iron-on vinyl, and the flame pieces with Gold Stardream and Gold Touch MirriSparkle Glitter.
The cutting file for this project can be found by clicking this link to Cricut Design Space: Birthday Candle Party Garland
After cutting out all of your paper pieces, you’ll start by applying the iron-on to the cardstock pieces. Do this with both the Happy Birthday and the holographic lines.
Next, you are going to assemble the candle flames. Using foam pop dots, attach the small flame cutout to the large flame.
Fold along all of the score lines on the large and small banner pieces.
Next, we will create the candle bases. Using strong double sided tape or hot glue, roll up the square pieces and form the candle tube.
Take your paper straw and cut it into 1 ¼” pieces.
Using the tube candle piece, the flame piece, and the straw you just cut, assemble the candle. Thread the straw through the hole in the flame piece and glue inside the candle tube piece.
Next, you will punch holes in the candle for the string to thread through.
Now we are ready to assemble the banner. Start at the center of the string and alternate the pattern. Glue the small and large pieces to the string, and thread the string through the candles, following the pattern as you assemble.
You can make as many candles and banner pieces as you would like and make the banner as long as you want. This is a fun addition to any party decor!
