DIY Baby Shower Shaker Card

DIY Baby Shower Shaker Card

A very good friend is having a baby shower soon and I wanted to make her card. Thinking about how many greeting cards are actually thrown away, I really wanted to make this card something special and something that could be used to decorate the nursery. I love dual purpose crafting!

To start, you will need:

  • Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
  • Scissors
  • Glue Pen
  • Craft Tape
  • Card (pre-made or die cut)
  • Cardstock backing for your shaker pocket (cut slightly smaller than your finished card size)
  • Plastic Vinyl
  • Embellishments for the card front
  • Sequins, Glitter, Confetti for inside the shaker pocket
  • Die Cut Machine (preferable but not necessary)

Take your card and cut a hole in the front in whatever shape you prefer. Cut out a piece of plastic vinyl so that it will cover the shape you have cut out. Using your craft tape, apply adhesive all the way around your cut-out shape on the inside of the card. Adhere your vinyl plastic to the card. Cut the excess plastic around your shape.

TIP: This type of craft tape applicator works best for moving the tape around circular or rounded shapes.

Sprinkle in your confetti, glitter and sequins on the plastic.

TIP: I have found that they will sometimes all fall to the bottom when the card is done. If you would like your pocket to have a more filled in look, add in one or two larger pieces like this pretty pink flower.

Now it is time to attach the backing. I used the same color cardstock as the card but you can get creative and use other colors or textures depending on how you want your shaker pocket to look.

TIP: Your backing should be cut slightly smaller than your finished card size so that your card will fold and close properly. I made mine about .25” smaller than the finished card size.

Apply your craft tape around the entire backside of the front of your card and adhere your backing so that it looks seamless. I also put tape on the back of the flower so that it would stay where I placed it.

The best part is turning the card around to see the front! You can shake it around to move the confetti where you want.

Using your glue pen and embellish the front of your card. I decided last minute to cut the words out of the Gold Mirror cardstock since it pops so much!

How pretty is this!!! This will definitely be a card that will not be thrown away!

Happy Crafting!
