Hey there! It’s Kira and I am back with another fun project using my Cardstock Warehouse papers. It’s Christmas time, which means I'm doing a little shopping for my nieces and nephews.
Let me preface this by saying that I am not a huge fan of gift cards. I pride myself on my gift giving abilities, so I rarely rely on a gift card to be a stand alone gift. However, this year, my husband and I are a bit overwhelmed with life and we decided for the nieces and nephews we would go the gift card route to keep things as easy as possible. We settled on Barnes and Noble cards, and since I hate just giving gift cards, I looked on Amazon for some book lights for them as well.
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Cipria Woodstock 105lb
- Verdigris Materica 92lb
- Bright White Colorplan 100lb
- Dark Grey Colorplan 100lb
- Paper Bag Kraft 100lb
- Adhesive (tape, liquid, and foam)
- Cricut (with blade and scoring tool)
- Optional: dog light, gift card, and bottle brush tree
And no dog should be without their very own doghouse, am I right? So, I did what any sane crafter would do and go to work creating a little dog house gift card holder in Cricut Design space. And since I am all about sharing during this holiday season, you can find the Cricut project here. This link includes the house, roof, shingles, and grass gift card holder.
Let’s get into how to put it all together! First, you’re going to start by cutting out the various pieces. I started with the house since that’s where I put a lot of my details. You can use any color, but I recommend a paper that is at least 100lb weight.
The score lines are included on the project, so you just fold and adhere to create your house.
Because I wanted my doghouse to look like a house, I then cut out 0.5” wide “siding” pieces to place on my house with foam adhesive. I also added “nails” on the ends of the pieces with a pen so they looked like wood planks. I labeled each of my houses with name “plaques” in the shape of bones with each of my nieces and nephews names.
The roof consists of a folded card, which can then be layered with the scallop “shingles.” This can also be done in any color, but I recommend cutting the roof and shingles in the same color in case there are some gaps when adhering them.
Lastly, you are going to cut out the final pieces as your base for your doghouse. I did my bases as green so it looked like they were sitting on grass, but any color would work. I also recommend a heavier cardstock for the base piece since it will need to hold, not only the house, but the dog lamp as well. Verdigris Materica 92lb was perfect!
There is a little tab on the smaller gift card holder piece. This can be left as just a pull tab to take the gift card out. Or, what I did for my houses, a “door mat” can be added. I cut out a patterned paper at 1.5”x2.5” and then layered it with a kraft paper to look like cute, layered door mats. To add to the Christmas theme, I added a tiny bottle brush tree to each mat.
And done! I love how these turned out and I hope y’all enjoy making some too! Make sure to tag me on Instagram @kira.gets.crafty so I can see what you made!
