My kids are lucky enough to spend a few weeks in the summer every year with their grandparents out of state. And while I know they are living their best lives without me, I still miss them terribly and love to surprise them with little care packages while they’re away. This year, I thought my Cardstock Warehouse paper could assist in making the boxes just a little more fun to brighten their day!
I started with a medium flat rate box from USPS. (These boxes are completely free to pickup, and you can stuff them with as much as you want for just one fee when you're ready to mail.) Then I grabbed some of my favorite new colors of the Lessebo papers for the inside flaps of my box. And finally, I gathered up some scrapbook supplies (die cuts, stickers, etc).
I started by taping the bottom of my box and stuffing it as much as I could with gifts for my kids. We just returned from vacation, so I had some souvenirs from Roswell, NM along with lots of their favorite snacks/treats.
Once the box was stuffed, I measured the flaps so I could cut paper to size. The medium flat rate box flaps measure at 11 ¼” by 4 ¼” (x2) and 8 ½” by 4 ¼” (x2). Since the 8.5x11 paper is just slightly shorter than the required 11 ¼” length, I covered both ends of the flap with additional paper so you wouldn’t see the cardboard peeking through, and you can’t even tell once the full piece is attached.
I decorated each of my pieces of cardstock prior to adhering to the box. I started with a phrase. For my son, Elliott, I wanted to go with a “sea” theme, hence the phrase “Sea you soon Elliott.”
As I worked, the theme sort of morphed into a general summer/beach theme).
I cut the phrase out on my Cricut, but you could also hand cut the letters or use alpha stickers as well!
Once each piece was decorated, I adhered them to each of the flaps of the box.
Then I topped the box up with crinkle paper as filler and DONE!!
I am so happy with how this box turned out and can’t wait to put together another for my other son! I hope this inspires you to send someone some happy mail this summer!
