Every child is a different kind of flower. All together, they make this world a beautiful garden. For this Teacher Appreciation Week, let’s reach out to our teachers and let them know just how thankful we are for their hard work in making our kids GROW and BLOOM. In this tutorial, you will learn how to put together your own Gift Card Flower Bouquet to say “Thanks a BUNCH for helping me grow!”
TO GET STARTED, you will need:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Flower cut file or Template
- Wooden Dowels
- Green Acrylic Paint and Paintbrush
- Floral Container
- Floral Styrofoam
- Green Paper Shreds
- Ribbon
- Buttons
- Teacher Sentiment
- Adhesive Tape
- Hot Glue Gun
- Gift Cards
FLOWERS
For my paper flowers, I decided to go with a cutting file from My Scrap Chick with multiple layers. This file is no longer available, but you can find a similar flower in your machine's software or achieve the same look without the need of an electronic cutting machine with just a few simple steps. This is also a great way to get your child involved with their teacher’s gift.
To create a similar flower, as the one I created you will need the following:
- 4x4 piece of cardstock(3)
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Circle object 1” diameter
You want your piece of cardstock to be no less than 4” x 4”, so that your gift card will fit inside. Using a circle that measures at least 1” in diameter – we used a plastic egg we had left from Easter – have child trace just half of the circle as close as possible to the edge of the paper. Keep repeating until you have a closed flower, as shown in picture 4. Then have child cut out the flower. You will need Three(3) flowers to create One(1) Gift Card Holder.
STEMS
Use a wooden dowel to create the stems for your flowers. Have child paint wooden dowels with Green Acrylic Paint, this may require 2-3 coats. Allow 10-15 minutes between coats. Let stems fully dry before adding to flowers.
FLOWER GIFT CARD POCKETS
To make the Flower Gift Card Pockets, you will need the following:
- Three(3) Flowers you made earlier.
- Gift Card
- Foam Tape (Pop-Dots, Dimensional Dots, etc)
- Scissors
- Adhesive (Scor-Tape, Glue Dots, Etc)
- Ink (optional)
Before assembling my Gift Card Pockets, I gave my flowers a quick ink around the edges with matching ink – this is optional. To create your Flower Gift Card Pockets, place your Gift Card on a Flower layer, about ¾” to 1” above the edge. Place foam adhesive all around the gift card.
- TIP: The dimension of the foam adhesive allows the Gift Card to slide in and out smoothly.
Take a Second Flower and place on top, pressing firmly so adhesive will stick, “sandwiching” the Gift Card inside.
FLOWER STEM ASSEMBLY
Once your Stems have fully dried and your Flower Gift Card Pockets have been assembled, you can adhere the two together. On the back of your Gift Card Pocket, place a small amount of hot glue on the bottom center – I used a Glue Dot for tutorial purposes – and place your stem. Add a good amount of adhesive around your stem and place the Third Flower Layer on top. Your Flower Gift Card Pocket is now complete and you may decorate as you wish.
- TIP: Have your child write a special message to his teacher on the front.
If you are using a layered flower, as I have, now is the time to add the extra layers to the front of your Flower Gift Card Pocket.
LEAVES
I felt the Flower needed some leaves, so I used another cutting file from My Scrap Chick, but you can draw these up as well, or choose a flower from your machine's files. I ran these thru my sticker maker and used hot glue to adhere to the back of the stems.
BOUQUET ASSEMBLY
It’s now time to put your bouquet together. I used an SVG file to create my vase, but you can use any vase or pot you would like to hold your bouquet. Place a piece of floral Styrofoam inside your container.
- TIP: Using Floral Styrofoam will ensure your Gift Card Flowers will stay in place inside your container.
Add your Flowers to the container, poking a hole through the Floral Styrofoam – as you can see, it took me a few pokes to find just the right placement. Add green paper shreds to hide Styrofoam.
I finished off my Gift Card Flower Bouquet, but tying some ribbon around my container and adding a “Happy Teacher Appreciation Day” sentiment.
- TIP: If you don’t own a teacher sentiment, there are many available online for free.
Now, it’s your turn to make your own Gift Card Flower Bouquet. These would also be great for any occasion, such as Mother’s Day, Graduation, Birthdays, etc. Simply change the colors of your flowers! Be sure to show us on Facebook or Instagram.
Thank You for stopping by!

Hi- I couldn’t find the rose file. Can you tell me the exact name of the file?
Love this but I don’t have machine for a cut file. Wish a template for the vase was included so my grandkids could make the vase.
