Hey y’all! Stephanie Vittorio here from Coffee Stamps Chaos to share this (sort of) simple card - by simple I mean I colored the image, drew a background, and layered it onto Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock.
This sweet image is from Sherri Baldy - she's part of Sherri’s My Besties Line. I knew as soon as I saw her that she should be in a train station or an airport. I opted for an airport since we had been planning a surprise family vacation for our kids in May, but due to the current pandemic as well as the many unknown factors surrounding it, we opted for a refund. Given the current situation in our world today, I know many, myself included, are dreaming of the freedom for our kids to return to school, to be able to travel, to gather with our friends and family; to go about our “normal everyday lives.” Simple things that we took for granted are now the same things we are wishing for. Enough with my rambling, let’s get down to the business of this card, shall we?
For this project I used:
Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers:
- Pure White
- Sirio Ultra Black
- Silver Metallic
- Vermillion 100lb
Other Supplies:
- My Besties Digital Image (image of your choice)
- Copic Markers (or other coloring medium)
- Paper Cutter (I recommend the Fiskars Rotary cutter)
- Adhesive - I used ⅛” ScorTape & ATG
- Foam Tape
Finished Card size is 5 ½” x 5 ½”
To start with you will need an image, the one I used is a digital stamp from My Besties by Sherri Baldy. She’s got a lot of cute whimsical digital images in her shop that can be used for cards, coloring pages for your kids, or adults if you’re into that! You can honestly use any image you choose as this is basically a universal card making tutorial.
I’ve included the recipe I used to color my image and it really only requires basic craft supplies that most of us have in our stashes or craft rooms. If you’re not into alcohol marker coloring, you can use a different medium for different results but I personally love the look of alcohol markers.
I colored up my main image using the recipe I provided. Then started thinking of how I wanted it to look. Using a ruler and a pencil, I just drew in some main lines, and then worked from there. The airplane was a die cut I had and just traced into my “sky”. Then I drew in all the plane elements. Using a pencil initially and marking things down lightly means you can change your mind until you get it right.
Once my image was colored, I ultimately decided that I didn’t want to cut off all the background I had just done so I made a square card - finished size is 5 ½” x 5 ½” - which is way outside my comfort zone as I normally stick to A2 or 4 ¼” x 5 ½” cards.
When my image was colored I selected my colors, layering Sirio Ultra black begins my main image, then layering together Silver and Vermillion and adhered those to my Pure White card base. I used foam tape to adhere my main colored panel - I was going to line everything up straight but decided it would be fun to tilt it slightly.
Overall it was a pretty simple card to make. The most time consuming part is almost always the coloring 😉 I love how the card stock colored really set off and brought to life the card as a whole.
