Hello everyone! I’m here today to share a different type of project for me- home decor. I have been trying to decorate my craft space. I thought this would be a great way to display a photo and some beautiful flowers. I was inspired by the Instagram Brights vs Pastels poll in the Cardstock Warehouse stories a few weeks ago. I love both of these paper groups and decided to mix them together on one spring project.
Supplies Needed:
- Embroidery hoop
- Tulle
- Hot glue gun
- Ribbon
- Die cutting machine or scissors
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Purple cardstock
- Lavender cardstock
- Fuchsia cardstock
- Pink cardstock
- Turquoise cardstock
- Light blue cardstock
- Bright yellow cardstock
- Light yellow cardstock
- Mid-green cardstock
- Lime green cardstock
Optional:
- Doily
- Title piece or alphas
- sequins
To create the flowers I used cut files from the Silhouette Design Store that is designed by Paige Evans. I used 3 different types of her rolled flower cut files and a leaf cut file. I sized them down to create about a 1-inch bloom. Then I cut them using my Silhouette Cameo.
If you do not have a cutting machine you are able to create rolled flowers by cutting a spiral out of your cardstock and rolling it up. (You can learn more about making flowers by hand in this blog post.) Before rolling you can decorate the edge of the spiral with a scalloped edge or by fringing it to create different types of blooms. This is a fun project to play around and see the different flowers you can create by changing up the design on the edge of the spiral.
Once your spirals are complete, roll the flowers and use some hot glue to hold it together. If you change the tightness of your roll, you can also alter the size and shape of your bloom. This is another way you can create some difference between the flowers.
After creating your blooms, you need to prepare your embroidery hoop. I used tulle that I had in my stash. It is a decorative tulle and is only about 6 inches wide. To fit my 10 inch hoop, I layered the tulle over itself. I ended up using 3 layers of the tulle to ensure that it covered the whole hoop and to make it a little thicker to adhere my florals to. Once you have your tulle on the hoop, tighten the screw to pull it tight. Adjust the tulle as needed to remove the wrinkles then finish tightening all the way.
Now comes the fun part! I started by putting a doily down in the lower left and upper right areas of the hoop. I added my photo then started placing my flowers around it. I tried to mix up the type of flower and color of paper so they weren’t right next to each other. I added the leaves, title and sequins to finish it off. If you are having problems getting your flowers to adhere to the tulle, you can use a piece of scrap paper behind the tulle to help it to adhere. Be careful when using the hot glue gun because you could melt the tulle if you hold it too close. I used the glue on the flower then pressed it to the tulle to avoid this problem.

This is GREAT! I’m obsessed with paper flowers recently. Would you be able to share which Paige cut files you used exactly? I’ve been known to buy some files and then they aren’t what I think they are~~~Love your creativity!!
