Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the temple in Jerusalem, after its desecration. In the US, Hanukkah is a celebration of Jewish traditions and family. In my house, that means food - matzoh ball soup and potato latkes. Each year, as I crank out Christmas cards for many of my friends, I always make a few Hanukkah cards for my family and friends on the east coast. Let's get started!
Blog Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Mirror in Silver, Gold
- Pop-Tone in Sweet Tooth White
- Colorplan in Sapphire Blue
- "happy" die from Cardstock Warehouse
- Deco Foil Transfer Gel & Blue Transfer Foil
- Spatula and/or Tool for Spreading Transfer Gel
- Cas-ual Fridays Jewish Stars Stencil
- Cas-ual Fridays Stars A2 Panel Die
- Low Tack Tape (for Masking)
- Pixie Spray (Stencil low tack adhesive)
- Manual Die Cutting Machine
- Heat Laminator
- Liquid Adhesive
- Foam Tape
- Scissors
- Parchment Paper
- Scrap White Paper
- Silver Embossing Powder & Heat Tool
To get started, I cut a cardstock panel from Sapphire Blue cardstock to 4.25” x 5.50”. I sprayed my Jewish Stars Stencil with Pixie Spray and adhered the stencil to the panel approximately 2” from the left. I then used post-it tape to mask off both the right and left side of the panel. Using a spatula tool, I applied a thin, even coat of deco foil transfer gel to the Jewish stars on the left side of the stencil. I removed the post-it tape and let the card panel dry overnight. When the gel is dry, it is clear/translucent.
The next day, I heated up my laminating machine for 20 minutes. I cut a piece of blue deco foil with my scissors to cover the card base. I created a carry sheet sandwich for my laminator. Inside a folded piece of parchment paper, I placed the card panel on top of a scrap piece of paper, with the foil on top with the color facing up. After closing the other side of the parchment paper, I fed the carry sheet through my laminator. I let the sandwich cool for a few seconds, then gently removed the foil from the card panel.
Next, I cut two frames using my Stars A2 Panel Die - one from Mirror Cardstock in Silver and another in Gold. From the silver panel, I punched out the middle of the stars. I also removed a few of the large stars with scissors to feature more of the foiled panel. From the gold panel, I removed the middle of the stars and set them aside. Using double-sided foam tape, I adhered the silver star frame to the Sapphire Blue panel.
To complete my card, I added the gold star middles to the silver frame with double-sided foam tape. I cut the word “happy” from Silver Mirror Cardstock, and also adhered it with double-sided foam tape. I stamped the word “Hanukkah” on a scrap of Sapphire Blue and embossed it with silver embossing powder. I attached this sentiment with liquid adhesive.
Now my card is ready to send!
I also made one with a white background. Leave a comment and let us know which one you like better!
