To get started, I used this awesome Groovy Font from Creative Fabrica to spell out the sentiment I want on my craftroom wall. I love how the wavy font adds a little bit of pizzazz! I made sure to measure the top nesting die I will be using in order to ensure the letters were properly fit. I am cutting my letters out of Gold MirriSparkle paper to add some sparkle to this banner! I love that I can cut this paper and it doesn't shed loose glitter all over my workspace.
My banner is going to say "FALL IN LOVE WITH PAPER" because I love the play on words since I am making this in the fall.
After I chose my color combo for the pennants, I cut out the backgrounds for each of the letters using a die from Alina Cutle. Each pennant will have a Gold Mirror layer, a Candy Pink Layer, a Powder Green layer, and an Ice White layer. Yes, 19 stacks of 4! (Whew!)
You can use any kind of string, twine, or ribbon to assemble your banner, but I chose this really pretty pink eyelet lace that I got from the dollar tree. I cut it up in half inch strips to make it a ribbon. I used hot glue to attach my ribbons to my bottom gold layer. I only used hot glue in the middle so the glue would not be seen on the edges when I layer my next layer on top. If you're cutting strips of a fabric like I am, you'll just want to keep an eye on where your ribbons start and stop so you can't see the seams.
Now it’s time to layer the rest of your pennant pieces. I used three different forms of adhesive: glue, hot glue, and dimensional foam dots. For the pink layer, I used wet glue on the upper and lower parts, and hot glue in the center over the ribbon, just to make sure it was well-adhered.
I added foam tape between the pink and Powder Green layer to add some dimension, then added the white layer on top of that with wet glue. You could also use a double-sided tape like Scor-Tape to adhere these letters. Just make sure you are using some form of permanent adhesive to ensure your banner will last a long time! You don’t want your pieces falling off onto your floor after it’s been hanging for a while!
Now we can add foam tape to the back of our letters. Ensure that the foam is not showing when you look at it from the front. You might have to use some finesse and trim your tape pieces here, but it will be worth the effort! The sparkly letters look so nice popped off the front of the banner!
I also added two flat pearls for decoration, because you know I love to add extra flair!
Repeat the steps for the remaining pennants of your banner. Now that all of my pieces are done they look so pretty on my table! Can I keep them there?
I’m not using typical fall colors because I will have this banner up permanently in my craft room (until I decide to change it), so I decided to add a little bit of "fall." I used another die from my stash to cut out foliage representing autumn. I used all of the scrap pieces from my die cuts to cut out these leaves. I added them to various places on my fall banner. #NoPaperLeftBehind.
Now for the fun part! I hung the banner in the middle of my wall using wall putty.
I felt like it needed a little extra something to tie it all together. I dug around in my SVG file stash and found an 8” Rosette and Doily from the Silhouette Studio. I decreased the size 2 inches to create a layered effect and made the second layer 6 inches. I put the doily in the middle of that stack. I made three of these to place at the top, the left, and the right of the banner on my wall.
And we’re done! How do you think it looks? The possibilities for creating your own banner are endless. You can use a variety of sentiments, color combos, string attachments, different size rosettes… the list goes on and on. Have you decorated your space with a personalized banner? If not, what are you waiting for? Let’s get to it!
