Hey y’all!!!!!!!!! Stephanie Vittorio here from Coffee Stamps Chaos and I can hardly believe this year is nearly at its end! I blinked and this whole year has just flown by! Anyone else? Just me?
Without further ado, let’s get down to the business of creating this fun project!
For this creation, you will need:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Silver Sparkle Cardstock
- Black Sparkle Cardstock
- Sirio Ultra Black Cardstock
- Pergamenata Parchment Bianco
- Die Cutting Machine
- Nuvo Glue
- Micro Glue Dots
- ScorTape
- LED lights
- Micro Electrical Switch (or DIY version)
- CR2032 battery
- Copper Foil Tape
- Foam Tape (I used some thick black foam tape from my stash)
- Hero Arts Rectangle Infinity dies
- Gina Marie Designs Enamel Dots
I know this is a long list but I promise this project is actually pretty easy to assemble and produces a wow factor that is sure to leave the recipient in awe! Who knew some little lights could produce such a big bang!?
First, you need an SVG; I found a free file by doing a google search. Then I sent it to my Scan N Cut, and cut it out on both Sirio Ultra Black and Sparkle Collection Silver Cardstock from Cardstock warehouse. Prior to cutting them with my die cutting machine, I cut my Cardstock in half vertically at 4 ¼” to create two tall panels, then the other half in two pieces at 5 ½” - to create two panels with the remaining cardstock. I used the other half of my Sirio Ultra Black Cardstock to create my card base, scored at 5 ½” and folded in half.
To assemble my card front I took my two die-cut panels, and pieced the Silver happy and year pieces into the Sirio Ultra Black, and taped across the back to hold them in place. Then I layered a piece of Pergamenata Parchment Bianco behind the Happy New Year panel. This will create a soft layer to diffuse the lights.
Die-cut the Happy New Year Panel to fit your card front, then create a Silver frame to layer behind it giving the illusion of an added layer. Then put a layer of foam tape (two layers adhered together of thin foam tape should suffice for this) around all the edges, this will help create a box to hide the light-up mechanism inside the card.
To assemble the light up part of the card, you will need to grab your lights, copper tape and battery. It helps to have a plan of where you want the lights to be and draw it out so you know it will work.
My awesome husband helped me out by drawing me a diagram based on what I wanted to accomplish, which made the execution much simpler for me to understand because I had a visual aid. I also kept it as my reference for future light up projects.
So I drew out my plan, laid my copper tape in place, and then checked to make sure I had a good connection. I repeated checking each light I connected, to ensure they worked and were properly placed. Then I placed my switch, and covered the prongs with a little extra copper tape.
You can also create a switch using a skinny piece of Cardstock covered with copper tape, which is connected to the + side of your tape and will run over the top of the battery, if you tap it; it should create the same effect in lieu of an actual switch.
Before assembling the card, I made sure it all worked and then put it all together. Added an enamel dot over my switch and pushed it to light up my card!
I hope you’ll give this project a try and share your version with us! You can use the hashtag #cardstockwarehouse for a chance to be featured on our Instagram and Facebook pages!
