Spring is in the air! Besides the beautiful colors, the sound of the rain, flowers blooming… It is the season of love and the season of marriage. Which also means it is the season to spend money, lol! With that last point in mind… I have the perfect cake topper for your special day that won't break the bank!
This is easy to put together and can be tailored to suit your needs as far as color and size. Also, as an added bonus… I have included a coordinating card. You can use this card for a wedding or any type of special occasion that will require notes of love… Very easy to put together. Let’s get started.
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Copper Stardream Pearlescent 105lb
- Smart White 80lb
- Copper Mirror
- Desert Sand MirriSparkle (Rose Gold)
- SVG FIles (click link, right-click to save)
- Moon Topper SVG
- Moon Card SVG (optional, if you want to make a matching card)
- Zip Dry wet adhesive
- Foam pop dots
- Hot glue gun and glue stick
- Drinking Straws
- Cake Pop Sticks
Cut out the SVG files using the papers listed above. To add stability to the cake topper, I’ve cut them out several times for each of the layers. For the back layer I cut it out in Smart White cardstock twice, and the Copper Mirror paper once. For the middle layer, I cut it out once in Smart White cardstock and once in Sesert Sand Rose Gold Sparkle. And finally for the top layer, I cut it out in Copper Stardream and once in Smart White. Once you have all of your layers cut for your topper, lay them out to prepare to glue them together.
The items that you need to get this project complete are simple. Besides your cardstock you’ll need some drinking straws. It doesn’t matter the color since they will not be shown. You'll also need cake pop sticks, zip dry or wet glue, hot glue, and some double-sided pop dots for dimension.
Start with the base layer and adhere them together. Be careful not to add any adhesive to the stars.
Before adhering the top layer, add your straws with some wet glue or hot glue to the base of the white card stock. Press firmly/smash on the straw as seen pictured here just before the end of the die-cut.
After you’ve secured the straws to the base, go ahead and add the copper layer, making sure it's aligned accurately.
Next, insert the cake pop straws into the drinking straws. Add hot glue to secure in place and to fill in any empty gaps.
Add your middle glitter layer using wet blue. For the final top layer, add plenty of dimension on the back using foam, being sure to avoid the stars. Also make sure that none of the foam dots can be seen from the front. Adhere this final layer to your stack.
And you’re done! Here are some final pics of how your cake topper should look. You can play around with the colors and sizing to suit your needs. Happy Crafting!
I hope (as always) that you enjoyed this project and will enjoy the SVG files. It was really fun to create!!
