Mother’s Day is coming sooner than you think and I don’t think there’s a mom out there that wouldn’t love a good wreath! A paper wreath was one of those dream projects that has been on my list since I first started with paper crafting, so I’m super happy that I finally stopped putting it off and finally just did it. I went with a super generic, but very versatile, all-green wreath which makes it super easy to customize however you like for multiple seasons! It’s definitely a project that looks more daunting than it actually is, I promise, just follow along!
Here’s what you need:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers in Gumdrop Green and Jellybean Green
- Scissors
- Glue Gun
- 18” Foam Wreath
- Die Cut Machine (or boundless patience with scissors)
- ½ Yard of fabric matching the color of paper you chose
First, I started by cutting out all the leaves needed for making the wreath. I searched for my favorite leaf design on my Cricut software, but it would work with a multitude of different designs, so choose whatever you like best. I ended up using four 12x12 sheets of Gumdrop and three sheets of Jellybean, but really the more the better.
Now you will want to wrap your foam wreath with fabric; that way when you inevitably have gaps in between the leaves, you won't see foam and the leaves will have something better to adhere to. I cut my ½ yard of fabric into four pieces and just wrapped it around the back, hot gluing the fabric together. I then cut off the excess overlapping fabric with my scissors.
Once I finished with wrapping, I began laying out my leaves on the wreath to get an idea of the configuration I was wanting. I personally liked the look of all my leaves going in the same direction, so I started gluing them on with my hot glue gun. I have a precision tip hot glue gun which made it a lot easier to not have huge globs show through and kept it just on the leaves. If you don’t have that type of glue gun, I would just make sure to go light on the glue. I glued about halfway up each leaf so that I could still have a better layering effect.
When I finished, I took a step back and added a few leaves in spots where I felt needed it still, and then I was done! I also glued a thick piece of hemp rope in a loop onto the back of the wreath to have something to hang it on, and then I just enjoyed the view (and I'm sure your mom will too)!
How great does this look on the door?
