Summer Toucan Handmade Card

Summer Toucan Handmade Card

Hello crafty friends, I hope you're having a great day! Summer is officially here, and I'm celebrating by creating a fun tropical-themed greeting card. I loved using as many bright colors as possible to create this card!

Supplies:

  • Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Paper:
    • Lessebo Colours 83 lb. Pitch Black, Canary Yellow, White, Lime Green, and Beach Blue
    • Lessebo Colours 111 lb. White (card base)
    • Colorplan 100 lb. Forest Green, Bagdad Brown, Fuchsia, and Rust
    • Stardream Fairway 105 lb.
    • Gold Mirror
  • Distress Oxide Carved Pumpkin and Mustard Seed
  • Blending Brush
  • Elizabeth Craft Designs Teddy the Toucan Die, Jungle Leaves Dies, and Leaves Background Die
  • Spellbinders Postage Frame Die
  • Honey Bee Stamps "Wish You Were Here" Stamp Set
  • Nuvo Shimmer Powders: Green Parade, Atlantis Burst, and Solar Flare
  • Liquid Glue
  • Foam Tape

To begin, I sprinkled Nuvo Shimmer Powders in three colors on Lessebo White card stock. Next, I sprayed the panel with water and used my heat tool to move the shimmer throughout the panel to create a fun background.

Here is the finished result of the background. I love how it turned out! It's almost like a tie-dye effect. I then used a rectangle die to cut the panel to A2 mat size, which is 4 x 5.25 inches. When you attach this to an A2 (4.25 x 5.5 inch) card base, it will leave a nice border around the outside.

Using the Toucan Teddy die, I die cut the elements out of Lessebo Pitch Black, White, Canary Yellow, Lime Green, and Beach Blue. Then, I used Distress Oxide Carved Pumpkin to add shading to the beak and feet of the bird. Next, I used liquid adhesive to assemble the toucan.

I cut a Forest Green leaves background panel and adhered it to the top of the shimmery background piece I made earlier. I also cut a bunch of foliage and flower pieces to use as embellishments, and a Gold Mirror postage frame.

After playing around with the layout a bit, I positioned and adhered all of the elements to the shimmer panel and then adhered the card front to the 111 lb. White Lessebo card base. This paper is so thick and luxurious and is perfect for making card bases!

Finally, I used more White Lessebo to stamp, cut, and adhere the "Just Livin' The Dream" sentiment to the card front. Now THIS Toucan is truly living the dream!
