Hey y’all! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Stephanie Vittorio here from CoffeeStampsChaos and I am SO excited to have been asked to stay on the Cardstock Warehouse Design Team for another term! I am also very excited that I have the opportunity to share more fun projects with you!
This month I am showcasing the Brand NEW Seasons Collection Be My Valentine Paper Pack! It comes with 50 sheets of 65lb cardstock, in five beautiful colors! One pack of paper, literally endless possibilities! Of course, I also HAD to use some of the sparkle collection too, it’s safe to say I am totally obsessed with the non-shedding Sparkle Cardstock collection! I find myself reaching for it often for my craft projects; in my opinion, it adds just the perfect sparkle and added interest to projects that just need a little something extra.
For this project you will need:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Pink Lemonade
- Red Hot
- Gold Touch Sparkle Collection
- Red Wagon Sparkle Collection
- Gina Marie Designs Dies
- Rectangle Scalloped Stitched Frame
- Peek a Boo Rectangle Die Set
- Cupid Die
- SpiegelMom Scraps Sequin Mix
- Pink Promenade
- Gold Stardust
- Acetate (clear plastic for the “window”)
- Foam Tape
- Adhesive - I use Nuvo Glue
- Scor- Tape
- Die Cutting Machine
- Paper Trimmer
To begin you will need to trim some Cardstock - mine were all cut at 4 ¼” to create a narrow card base. I set aside a piece to use as my card base, scored at 5 ½”. The rest I cut in half to give me “panels” that were 4 ¼” x 5 ½” - that I used to die cut the frames, Cupid and the gold glitter background for our shaker.
I used two frames to achieve a layered look, cutting the red frame and pink “peek a boo window”. I used Scor-Tape to adhere the two together creating a window or frame for what will be our shaker card. Once I assembled the frame I trimmed a piece of acetate to fit behind it and adhered it using Scor-Tape.
**Here’s a trick for getting perfect placement when using ScorTape (or any kind of tear tape) - place your tape on your project, then peel back a little of the backing from each corner to “tack it” in place - once you have your layer perfectly aligned, press firmly on each corner to make sure it doesn’t move, and slowly pull out your tape backing! SUPER EASY!**
Once the window was done, I added foam tape around all edges making sure there were no gaps, trust me you do not want anything falling out of your shaker card, the foam tape will ensure a nice snug frame to hold everything in place. Once I had a foam frame on the back of my window, I put filler in it. Then added a piece of Gold Touch Cardstock, cut slightly smaller than the window so you can’t see it around the frame when your card is assembled. Come to think of it, it would be really pretty to see a small frame of gold around the window frame, but I didn’t do that with mine because I had a small margin of space and wanted the Pink Lemonade card base to show as well.
Once the shaker was assembled I adhered it to my card base, using ScorTape, then attached Cupid to the front using a combination of ScorTape and Nuvo Glue. Nuvo glue is fast drying, does not warp the paper, and dries clear, so you don’t have to worry much if you have a little that smooshes out - but a good rule of thumb when using any glue, is less is more. It spreads nicely and generally, creates a very good bond between layers you are gluing together. Nuvo Glue works really well on acetate too!
By now you should have a card that looks like this one - now these techniques can be used on any card you make so don’t feel like you HAVE to make a Valentine card, it would make a great birthday card, anniversary card or "just because" card, too! When I made my first shaker card, I have to admit I was a little worried I would totally mess it up, but I got through it! Shaker cards are a lot of fun to make and a lot of fun for the recipient too! Here is another shaker card I made using a similar color theme.
Thanks for hanging out with me today! I look forward to sharing a new project with you next month, but until then, don’t forget to check back for lots of other super cute projects from the rest of the Design Team - they are all SUPER talented!
